Nancarrow Cinamon was imported from Great Britian in september 1998
as a 3,5 months old pup from kennel Nancarrow (Mr Hedley Millington,
Truro, Cornwall)..
Java is strongly line-breeded on GBFTCH Swallolaw Snipe, whom I saw at the first time at the
Game Fair in Wales, summer -89. He made a great impression on me.
Java
who a liver bitch had her first hunting season in -99 but my impression
have been that it has been crucial to not be in a hurry when training her.
She has a great confidence in
herself, nothing seems to worry her, and still as lively as one wish a cocker to be.This
temperament, a confident and lively type, may give the impression that the
cocker is more mature than she actually is. My experience is that this
type of temperament is rather common in working-cockers.
The first
training lessons started when Java was at the age of 9 months. We started
with basic training and moved on slowly. I think Java is a typical cocker
character that spaniel people often
talk warmly about. I have learned that encouragement is far much better
way than the opposite when training my cockers. This way to train also
suit my own temperament. The backside of this is that I have never reached
full control over my cockers, but on the other hand, they have always had
good stamina and happiness when working with me. In field trials it might
be just be the greatest event OR it might be that my cockers have been
invaded by a small devil as Keith Erlandson wrote about when he described
cocker spaniel temperament.
I also aggree
with Carl Colclought interviewed in Mike Smith's book "Working
cockers & springers" that the way to train a cocker is to make
them beleive that they are doing the excercise for their own sake. A
springer may be trained in a more rightforward way.
If one should
describe Java's looks, she is a very good looking working cocker. She has
a great and strong bone, straight legs, well-angulated in front and rear
and a really nice head with good expression.
Java* s
litters
Java
is a lovely and a very keen mother. She takes the best care of her puppies
and one has nothing to do with the puppies before the
third or fourth week. She keeps the whelping-box clean, has lots with milk
and takes care of the puppies as good as one ever can desire. Up til today
she have had three litters with 7 puppies in each of them. The first two
litters consisted almost only of dogs, but the third was the opposite,
only one dog and bitches for the rest.
